We share with you a selection of our favorite ski touring recipes that are not only easy to prepare, but also easy to take with you and packed with the necessary nutrients to sustain you on your way. Get ready to send your taste buds on a journey as you climb the mountains!
Ingredients: Makes 150 ml gel
1 tbsp smooth salted peanut butter
1 tbsp agave syrup or golden syrup
1 apple, peeled and cored
Method:
Blend ingredients together in a blender/ food processor.
Transfer into reusable gel bottles.
This recipe freezes well, so you could make a larger batch.
Ingredients: Makes 200 ml gel
2 tbsp pineapple chunks
15 ml fresh lime juice
15 ml light honey or golden syrup
1 banana

Blend ingredients together in a blender.

The per unit cost is way lower. Typical energy gel costs €3 per unit, whereas, if you make these gels in batches of 3 or 4, the per unit cost is 0.50c.
Less plastic waste, and no torn off strips of sticky gel packaging by the side of the trail.
Can be adapted to your taste and needs. Don’t like pineapple, no problem, replace with a squeeze of orange.
Ingredients:
4 tbsp shredded coconut (2 for the balls, 2 for dusting)
4 tbsp dried blueberries, or dried cranberries
4 tbsp dates
4 tbsp hazelnuts
Method:
Mix all the ingredients together in a blender.
Spoon out onto a tray.
Form into small balls, then roll in the rest of the shredded coconut.
Store in a resealable box.

Juice of 1 orange
1/2 tsp sea salt
700 ml water
Method:
Put all the ingredients in a 1-liter water bottle and shake well to combine.
For an effective rehydration drink, you basically need a little sugar and salt in water.
You could use a sachet of Dioralyte in your water bottle or this simple mixture.
