WHAT TO EXPECT
This winter promises more excitement again because deuter is inviting you on a long weekend of ski touring, including three nights in cozy dorm-style accommodation. Highly experienced deuter mountain guides will be on hand to lead the ski touring all weekend, taking you up through idyllic landscapes and finding the best off-piste lines. Their expertise will help you stay safe on the mountain, and they’ll also be carrying out workshops on effective tour planning and how to use the White Risk app to manage risks in the backcountry.
Covering three days from 31.01.25 to 02.02.25 you’ll be moving through stunning Alpine mountains together with an international group of keen mountain folk. Evenings will be spent attending workshops on mountain safety. And there will be exciting talks and films to watch as you sip on your apéritif.
Because of the international nature of the event, all talks and workshops will be carried out in English. To make sure you’re equipped with the best there is, deuter will be lending out ski touring and avalanche airbag backpacks from its winter collection. Plus, you’ll be in with a chance to win the brand new Alproof Ride backpack during the event.
Do you love ski touring and have a good level of skiing / splitboarding skills off-piste? Can easily cope with 1,000 - 1,500 vertical meters? Want to experience mountain life firsthand together with deuter? Then grab your skis or splitboard and enjoy the ski touring weekend of your dreams – off-line, unique and exhilarating. Learning from the pros – we’ve selected the best of the best: Mountain guides, snow scientists, and a ski racer. The who’s who of the deuter Family will be at the deuter off-line days.
Michael Bückers
Mountains are everything to him. And moving through them his favorite thing to do. Add some snow, and some like-minded people into the mix, and the day only gets better. Michi (born in 1984), is a state certified mountain and ski guide, as well as a sports scientist. He borrowed his personal mantra from mountaineering legend Alex Lowe: “The best climber is the one having the most fun.”
Ben Reuter
There’s not much about snow that Ben doesn’t know about. A mountain and ski guide, he’s also a climate and snow scientist. He led the research project for the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF into the connection between weather and avalanche formation. Ben (born in 1984) lives together with his wife Neige (no joke) near Grenoble. Currently Dr. Snow is working mainly for Meteo France.
Monika Hümmer
Watching Moni ski is like an out-of-body experience. So it’s no wonder she’s on the teaching and demo team of the German Association of Sports Teachers (DSLV). And since 2018 she’s also been a successful mountain and ski guide. The calm, empathic yet cheerful way she has about her, makes people immediately feel at ease.
Aside from ski touring every day, there will be exciting informative talks.
1. Planning a ski tour: deuter Team member, climate and snow scientist, Ben Reuter, will host a workshop on how to correctly interpret avalanche bulletins and then adapt that information when planning a ski tour, using the help of the White Risk app.
2. Jonas Schneider, CEO of our partner Protect our Winters (POW) will give an inspiring talk on how you, as an individual, can take effective action. Starting off by using greener means of travel to get to and from the deuter off-line days.
3. Alpine safety expert, Philipp Dahlmann, will demonstrate how to respond correctly in an emergency and which rescue techniques are effective in alpine terrain.
Safety first – for us, it’s not only important that we equip you with the best gear, but we also want to equip you with the knowledge to make your mountain adventure safe and fun.
Tour planning and avalanche reports
You’ll learn how to interpret avalanche reports according to the ski tour you plan to undertake and to recognize and therefore minimize risks right from the planning stage. There will also be an introduction to the White Risk app — a clever tool to help with planning a ski tour.
Mountain first aid
How should you respond in cases of exhaustion, the onset of darkness or a fall resulting in injury? We’ll teach you the most effective rescue techniques so that you can respond well and quickly in an emergency.
Climate protection
Climate change is putting our winters at risk, and life as we know it. In this POW (Protect Our Winters) workshop you’ll learn about what action you can take as an individual. You can start the process off by opting for sustainable methods of travel to and from the deuter off-line days.

Tell us what you’re made of:
KEEN
I’m obsessed with ski touring! I’m fit enough to cover 1,000 vert. m ascent and 1,500 vert. m off-piste descent, and look forward to a nice little break at a mountain hut afterwards.
PRO
I’ve done loads of ski touring. 1,000 vert. m ascent and 1,500 vert. m off-piste descent is easily within my capabilities. I look forward to going on a ski traverse within a group of people of similar ability.
No Limits
I am fit enough to climb Mont Blanc. In the right conditions, I can also climb several peaks in one day. Skinning up and skiing down, doing laps in the high mountains — that’s what it’s all about for me.
We’ll have you kitted out in the best gear there is. You can select from a deuter avalanche airbag backpack (Alproof or Alproof Lite), or the Freescape Lite or Freerider Pro to take on tour with you. And for an added bonus, we’ll be drawing one participant’s name to win an Alproof Ride backpack at the end of the deuter off-line days – to accompany you all your ski touring adventures to come.
Alproof:
The Alproof equipped with Alpride E2 avalanche airbag system and the very latest supercapacitor technology deploys reliably, quickly and at high pressure, even in freezing cold temperatures. With multiple deployments possible, easy handling, and a quick-access avalanche equipment compartment, plus superior carry comfort and a snug fit with zero load wobble, the result is a controlled backcountry ride every time. A leg safety strap prevents the pack from being ripped off in an avalanche, while a helmet bag, gear straps and gear loops make this TÜV-inspected avalanche airbag backpack a serious mountaineering pack too.
Alproof Lite:
The lightweight Alproof Lite equipped with Alpride E2 avalanche airbag system and the very latest supercapacitor technology deploys reliably, quickly and at high pressure, even in freezing cold temperatures. With multiple deployments possible, easy handling, and a quick-access avalanche equipment compartment, plus superior carry comfort and a snug fit with zero load wobble, the result is good control for freeriding. A leg safety strap prevents the pack from being ripped off in an avalanche, while a helmet bag, gear straps and gear loops make this lightweight TÜV-inspected avalanche airbag backpack a serious mountaineering proposition too.
Freescape Lite:
The Freescape Lite ski mountaineering backpack boasts excellent comfort, ultralight materials, a solid fit and easy handling. A side zipper offers secondary access to contents in the main compartment, while skis, a snowboard or crampons remain attached to the outside using the modular gear straps. A dedicated avalanche equipment compartment offers instant access to shovel and probe in an emergency.
Freerider Pro:
The Freerider Pro has all the features and flexible capacity you need for multi-day winter mountain adventures. This latest incarnation of the Freerider Pro has a new roll-top closure. Which allows you to expand the capacity of the pack by 10 liters. The roll-top itself is also fitted with a stowable strap for the attachment of extra kit or a climbing rope, or to compress the roll-top itself. If you don’t need your skis, snowshoes or snowboard through some sections of the day, they can be attached to the outside of the pack quickly and easily using two dedicated gear straps. Skis can be attached diagonally across the back or upright in an A-frame, a snowboard or snowshoes in an upright position. These versatile gear straps can also be used for load compression.
And when you stop for a break, you don’t have to unstrap your equipment. Because the main compartment can be accessed via the back panel that opens out fully for better contents location. Our new hard-wearing, breathable, snow-shedding fabric on the back system ensures your back remains dry.
